Academy of Natural Sciences Printing Blocks and Plates

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of single and group printing blocks and plates commissioned for use by the Academy of Natural Sciences. The plates and blocks range from animal figures, signature plates, letterhead, to special invitations. The printing blocks are made of wood with metal outlines fastened to the wood. There are solid metal printing plates and also metal roller printing plates. Each block or plate has a general note attached to it with more detail.

Henry Skinner Papers

Scope and Contents

Trained as a medical man, Skinner devoted much of his later life to entomology, his research interests being in Lepidoptera. He edited Entomological News from 1890-1910. This collection contains correspondence, a bibliography of his writings, a notebook on Lepidoptera, scientific articles and annotations. The latter appear in his Catalogue of North American Rhopalocera, and in Dyar's Catalogue of North American Lepidoptera.

Overview John Percy Moore (1869-1965) was a Professor of Zoology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1912 to 1939, an Assistant Curator at the Academy of Natural Sciences from 1902 to 1938, and held several positions between 1920 and 1956 at the Ludwick Institute, which offered free lectures and courses in the natural sciences. Assembled by Calvert and retained in his home office until his death, when they were bequeathed to the Academy.
